Do Not Forget About Your Kitchen Blender

You may have forgotten that you even own a blender, but if you dig back far enough in the cabinets, there it is. Often we buy a blender for a special occasion and simply never think of how else they can be used so they get pushed back under the cabinet in the appliance graveyard. It is time to resurrect this appliance and put it back to use.

If you found your blender, dig it out and lets have some blender fun. If you did not find a blender, then make the investment in this useful little machine.

If you have a baby, try making your own baby food. You can place small quantities of the food that you have made for your own family in the blender and puree so that the baby can eat it. It is a much healthier alternative to canned baby food. Soups, stews, vegetables and even chicken breast can all be pureed into baby food in a blender.

Why not blend up your own fresh fruit smoothie. Just blend fresh fruit, add a few ice cubes and milk. If you desire, add some sweetener or sugar to the mix. Once everything is blended, your smoothie will rival anything you can buy anywhere.

Speaking of coffee, use that blender to grind coffee beans. There is no need to invest in a coffee grinder, the blender works great on low. By grinding your own beans, there you get the fresh taste of the coffeehouses. Do not blend long enough to overheat the beans and burn them.

The blender is also a good spice grinder. It works best on the low setting and is perfect for cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, black pepper or other spices. Remember that the flavor of these spices will be more intense than the pre-ground spices.

The blender can also chop nuts. For a course grind pulse a few times. The more times you pulse, the finer the grind. For nut butters, add freshly roasted nuts to the blender and allow the grind until you reach the correct consistency. A little bit of peanut oil can give a better texture.

Try making fluffy scrambled eggs or omelets by using the blender to whip the eggs. You will think you are eating a a really good restaurant for breakfast.

If your gravy has lumps, a blender can get rid of them. When using hot foods like gravy, a glass blender container is best. Do not fill the container over half full with hot foods to prevent expansion.

Of course, a blender is great for mixed drinks. It is an essential part of margaritas and pina coladas. Try virgin versions for those who do not drink alcohol. Additionally try freezing juice in ice cube trays and blend with unfrozen juice to make healthy slushies.

One way to ensure that your blender gets more use is to find it a prime place on top of the counter. Unfortunately, sometimes blenders are out of site, out of mind appliances. If you put yours where it can easily be seen, it will remind you of all those great things you can do with a blender. Blenders are great appliances and very useful if you just do not forget that they are there.
